Subsurface Insights of the Maricunga Gold Belt through Local Earthquake Tomography

With the advancement of use geophysical methods in mining exploration, possibility restudying known mineral deposits that could have greater potential than previously estimated is opening up, as case Maricunga Belt (MB), which a metallogenic belt located east Copiapó, Chile, with length 200 km and oriented NNE-SSW direction. This hosts significant gold classified porphyry (-copper), epithermal (-silver) high sulphidation type, transitional gold, some districts. In this work we studied characteristics MB through local earthquake tomography (LET), revealed clear spatial correlation between low Vp/Vs anomalies deposits, demonstrating lithologic interpretation using Vp Vs values seismic makes sense for most common rocks associated genesis porphyry-type deposits.
